We are reading Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo and enjoying it very much! Students will learn how to write a reading response and have sophisticated literature circle conversations. Our thematic question for this novels is:  

 

~How are hope, knowledge, and friendship necessary for the survival of the human spirit?~

Each student will be responsible for the following:
  1. ​Three reading responses ready to share for literature circle discussions (attached below called response writing template, paper copies will be provided): 3×12 = 36 marks.
  2. One project completed before Friday Dec. 18, choices include: What? So What?, Graffiti Novel Project, Kensuke’s Kingdom Final Log, Character Suitcase, Mapping It Out, or Slideshow/PowerPoint/Canva.*critieria for final projects is attached below.

What is theme?

Theme is:

  • the central, underlying, and controlling idea or insight of a work of literature.
  • the idea the writer wishes to convey about the subject – the writer’s view of the world or revelation about human nature. 
  • a full statement, not just one word.
