Hello English 10 students!

Your activities for this week are the final ones that I will post for the semester.  First, I have a small poetry activity for you to do and I want you to post the paragraph response on CANVAS after reading the poems and using the venn diagram as a prewriting activity.

Richard Cory- Compare Two Poems.docx

Secondly,  I would like you to plan your final book talk and how you want to submit this piece for me to assess.  You will need to either send me a video or schedule a time to come into class and give your book talk to me in the final two weeks of classes.  Another option would be either through TEAMS or over the phone, and you can give me some notice so that I can arrange a time for this option.

As we are headed into the final two weeks of classes, all remaining assignments need to be submitted on CANVAS.  If you need in class support, you are able to come into school at scheduled times.  Please let me know if this option works best for you and I will add you to the list or if you need additional support on line.

Finally, I do want to add how proud I am of all of you to have done so well in these circumstances.  I know that it has been frustrating but the resilience that I’ve seen from you has been inspiring.

Hello Students!

Over the next two weeks, we will complete activities on poetry.  June will present an opportunity for students to complete missing assignments.  For those who are unable to complete work at home, you will be given an opportunity to come to school so that I can support you in passing the course. Therefore, it is important that you do the best you can to submit assignments in as timely a manner as you possibly can.
To begin Poetry, we are going to start by looking at devices that poets use to create figurative (beyond literal meaning of words) language, imagery and sound patterns.
1.  Watch the following Ted Talk and list three uses for metaphorical language.
2.  On the following page, definitions are supplied for poetic devices.  See if you can find three examples from the list that follows definitions for each device.  Paste examples under the correct category and when complete, submit to CANVAS.
Ex:  Metaphor
He was a lion in battle
The suits left the office at 5 p.m.
He is the snake that hides in the bushes.

Welcome to English 12!  Your outline is posted below and there are links to resources for English on the home page for this class. We will be looking at the theme of identity and we will explore several subthemes that are related to this central idea as we move through the course.  I will post our schedule weekly and you need to be sure to keep up to date as we move through the course.  Most assignments will not be posted, but rather you will need to contact me.  In addition, many assignments will need to be completed in class.

This semester, CAPSTONE is part of our class and students will need to complete and present their project before the end of the semester.  We will be working through the planning stages at the beginning of the term, following progress throughout the semester and finally presenting projects at the end.  Some aspects of the project- the project plan and reflection- will be included in your grade 12 mark.

What is a CAPSTONE?

Example of CAPSTONE

Example of CAPSTONE

We are starting off with an article considering what students need to know when they leave school and  this will give us an opportunity for discussion and consideration regarding the CAPSTONE project.
